Now, at the age of 75, after spending decades in the United States, Mrs. Nguyen has extended her kind and generous hands toward Sri Lanka, her chosen motherland, focusing on the welfare of underprivileged and destitute people in the Monaragala region. In a noble act of charity, she has initiated the construction of a new residential home for the elderly and the sick on the sacred grounds of Sri Buwanekaba Viharaya, Govindupura, Monaragala.
Following a discussion with the temple’s chief incumbent, Ven. Buddhama Dhammika Thero, a piece of temple land was allocated for this humanitarian project. Construction of two elderly homes, consisting of sixty beds, officially commenced on August 19, 2024, under an auspicious moment.
The project has received full support from the 12th (Volunteer) Engineer Service Regiment, under the guidance and direction of Commanding Officer Colonel Mangala Gunathilaka, ensuring complete contribution toward the construction works.
The main objective of this residence is to provide safe and compassionate shelter for elderly individuals who are poor, sick, or without families to care for them. It will also provide nourishment, healthcare, and emotional comfort for its residents.
In the words of Mrs. Trung Hieu Nguyen:
“I live my life following the path of Sikhi Buddha. Through generosity and service, my greatest wish is to ease the suffering of others.”
Thus, this great humanitarian project has been named “Sikhi Mission House”- a sanctuary founded on infinite love, compassion, and giving.
The project is being carried out under the guidance of Sri Buwanekaba Viharaya and supported by the Vishaka Foundation, as a global act of kindness and humanity.
