Following in her father’s footsteps, and making it her life’s mission to support the helpless, Mrs. Trung Hieu Nguyen has reached another milestone in her social service journey. For several years now, she has extended her noble, generous hand towards our motherland, focusing on the wellbeing of the underprivileged in the Monaragala area. As a result, construction work on the Sikhi Mission House elders’ home, which was ceremonially commenced on 19 August 2024, has gradually moved forward over the past one and a half years.
In particular, it must be remembered with pride that the intervention and dedication of the officers of the 12th (Volunteer) Engineer Services Regiment is what enabled this project to be brought so close to its final stage within such a short period of time. Continuously seeking out what needed to be done, and going beyond the call of duty to fulfill every possible responsibility, the commanding officer Colonel Mangala Gunathilaka and the entire staff of the regiment have made a remarkable contribution to this effort.
In addition, the unstinting support extended by the villagers towards this noble cause must also be deeply appreciated. Beyond her own financial donations for the construction of this elders’ home, its founder, Mrs. Trung Hieu Nguyen, has constantly visited the site, monitored its progress, and continually encouraged those engaged in the construction work. It can be said without dispute that this is the secret behind bringing such a massive undertaking close to a successful conclusion.
By donating her land for this noble act of generosity, and by constantly offering advice and guidance, the temple’s chief incumbent, the Venerable Buddhama Dhammika Thero, too became a powerful pillar of support for the success of this mission.
Likewise, had it not been for Mr. B. S. Kumara and the board of directors who assumed primary responsibility for this task and worked tirelessly day and night, there might not have been such a joyful outcome to this great endeavor even by now. It is with that in mind that we wish to bestow upon them the highest honor they rightfully deserve.
How much spiritual satisfaction is gained by recalling again and again the memories of the past and witnessing them with our own eyes, only the hearts of those who labored in this mission will truly know. These are but a few fragments from the memories along the path we have traveled so far, from the inception of this great Sikhi Mission House project up to this point.
May we be endlessly grateful, to all who have extended their support up to this point…!
